Last week’s quarter finals in the team knock out witnessed some closely fought encounters. None more so than the Queen Charlotte Flip flops – Royal Oak tie that went to a play off after a 13-all draw. Another tight match saw the Merlin Magicians win through on the final singles against the Merlin Mercenaries as did Boro Porkys who were victorious over the Boro Frogs. The last semi final berth was claimed by current league leaders Wolves who were too strong on the night for the Merrie Monk.

Semi final draw: Queen Charlotte Flip Flops v Wolves: Boro Porkys v Merlin Magicians.

Unicorn Darts Youth Academy

It was a highly encouraging first night back with the youngsters welcoming new members Jake Urwin, Reece Morgans and Jordan Edmonds and all players were focussed and in good form. In the seniors Adam Major was the top man in the 201 outshot-clinic which included a 6 darter; James Daley was awarded MVP in the team game and Karl Brooks’s improvement and dedication continues to impress his coaches. (Karl is shown pictured right)

Another pleasing aspect was the general performances from the recently promoted juniors. Luke Goddard impressed in the check-out school and Danielle Hopper and Ray Lockington were three from three in the pairs.

Obituary – Wendy Murray

It is with great sadness the darting fraternity of Andover learned of the passing of Wendy Murray last Saturday the 19th January aged 63. A founder member of the ladies league Wendy played for the Arms and Royal Oak at Clatford in between spells at the Cricketers Tangley and the Crown at Upton. A very popular and talented player, her many successes included a champion of champions and three Andover ladies singles titles.

Son John, a keen and regular player for the Clatford teams, is also a major sponsor of the Andover Classic as proprietor of JB Motors and the West Portway MOT Ltd.

Wolves back on top

Thorny tops 2007 order of Merit

Classic Ranking Order of Merit

The winner of the 2007 Classic Ranking Order of Merit is Mark Thorne who beat last year’s winner Ali MacDonald into second place. The ranking system was devised for all Andover darters to earn points in the quest for annual Classic qualification against Top County and professional opposition each Easter.

Players can earn points in the summer and winter leagues for legs won, 180’s and tons tables. In addition, there are monthly classic ranking events where players earn points as they progress through the knock out stages and a chance to share in the £500+ prize money.

The system is based on points won on a two year period starting January 2006 and points will be lost on the second anniversary of the event.

The top 32 players automatically receive invites for the Classic as do the top 12 non Andover players from the monthly ranking events. There are a further 2 Youth and 8 professional invites with 8 places to be won in knock out qualifiers and 2 committee wildcards.
