Devizes' Gary
Scratchley produced a superb display in Andover to
collect the £200
winners prize and
70 points in the penultimate ranking competition of
2007.
On stage at the
Entertainer Scratchley (30.36) defeated Wiltshire's
Martin Richell (26.96) 5-3 in the final with a 13,
two 15 and two 17 dart legs.
In
the semi finals Richell overcame last months winner
Nillson Pritchard (25.69) 5-2 whilst Scratchley
(30.07) edged an epic 5-4 contest with Andover's
Colin Denyer (29.08).

Ranking Competition
Tomorrow sees the second Don Knowles
Classic Singles sponsored by Kevin Farrer of
International Furniture at the Entertainer. With over
£500 in prize money many of the regions top players will
be chasing a winner’s cheque of £200 plus 70 classic
ranking points. There are a few places remaining for
this best of 7 legs event doors open at 10.30 with a
latest registration time of 11.30 – entry fee £5
Poll
The
Poll to nominate the final classic ranking event of 2008
is hotting up with Bruce Smith on 55% followed by Ali
MacDonald 30%. Other nominees Gary Brant, Wiggy Few,
Dick Gray Archie Holder, Dick Pearson, Colin Robbins,
Mick Richards, Colin Ryman, Ken Sadler, and Ray Walker
have all received support.
Invitation Darts League
The leagues early pacesetters met last
week with the Mercenaries coming out on top against Boro
Porkys and the best singles performances came in 4-1
wins for Jeff White over Kevin Ede, Paul Britten against
Ron Atwill and young Adam Major from the Academy who
enjoyed his best senior league win to date.

Darts Youth Academy
Academy youngsters and coaches were out
in force last Saturday to raise urgent funds required to
secure next year’s activities. A unique yet challenging
format was prepared for the forty one players who set
out to complete as many games of 501 in (8 hours and
twenty one) 501 minutes.
After starting the marathon haul on their
own boards, the young ladies, men, juniors and coaches
paired up to complete a staggering 445 legs of darts
before the closing deadline on 6.21pm.MORE

Ranking Competition
Saturday 17th November sees
the second running of the Don Knowles Classic Ranking
Singles and the penultimate chance to earn ranking
points for next Easter’s Classic. Last month’s event
was supported by players from seven counties and this
one promises to be every bit as popular.
The event in honour of the diminutive
darter that graced the district’s circuit for many years
is sponsored by International Furniture a stalwart
supporter of Andover darts. Open to all players the
competition is limited to the first 64 entrants with an
entry fee of £5, £200 winner’s prize and a closing date
of 14th November.
All darts enthusiast are invited to log
onto the town’s darting website and the poll to name the
final Classic ranking singles of 2008. The competition
runs to the end of this year and the nominees are as
follows:
Gary Brant, Wiggy Few, Dick Gray, Archie
Holder, Ali MacDonald, Dick Pearson, Colin Robbins, Mick
Richards, Colin Ryman, Ken Sadler, Bruce Smith and Ray
Walker.

Its early doors but the Merlin
Mercenaries look the team to beat so far but the
individual honours could be anyone’s after three league
matches. Table toppers Mercenaries include three
Hampshire A team players and have a three point lead
over Boro Porky’s whom they meet this week.

The Classic Ranking system (1
competition each month with ranking points
and over £500 in prize money to be won),
leads to the Andover Transplus Classic each
Easter Saturday and next year’s the fifth
will offer up over £5000 in prize money and
trophies.
Each monthly competition is
named after an Andover darting legend or
stalwart for sometime ago now, Andover
Invitation Darts decided to commemorate as
many of the town’s top darters past or
present, alive or not for the area has a
proud tradition in the sport of darts. From
Moses Wheeler, ex-News of the World Champion
to England International and World-Master
Colin Monk there has been many fine throwers
in between. In truth there
could be a weekly competition, so long is
the list of quality players that have graced
our game, but the roll has been drawn up as
follows.
This
month, November: Don Knowles and December:
Dougie Donohue. We were eagerly looking
forward to welcoming Dougie to his
competition but his recent and sad passing
now takes the memorials to seven.
Next year’s diary dates are,
January: Colin Monk; February: Sharron Bale
Mixed-Pairs; March: Transplus Andover Darts
Classic; April: Keith Goacher; May: Micky
Collins; June: John Taylor Pairs; July:
Moses Wheeler Darts-athlon; August: Johnny
Woodman; September: Les Brant; October: Don
Knowles; November: Dougie Donohue; and
December....... yet to be announced.
We are offering up this last
place to the winner of a poll conducted up
to Christmas with all darts enthusiasts
being able to take part, please feel free to

Academy aim to secure the future
Unicorn Darts Youth Academy
This Saturday the Academy holds its
annual fundraising event at the Entertainer where the
youngsters will be setting out to complete as many games
of 501 in 501 minutes. This unique event which will see
both juniors and seniors playing simultaneously is in
aid of needed if the Academy is to keep growing and
moving forward as the leader in the field of darts
schools of excellence. Anyone wishing to donate or
sponsor these dedicated youngsters can do so by either
visiting the Entertainer between 10am and 6pm or logging
onto

Academy focus last week fell on the mixed
pairs and after round one, captain Steve Turner and Mel
Oakley, Stuart Eaton and Chelsea Newman share the lead
with 4 wins from 5 with the two exceptional 13 year-olds
Billy Day and Terri Newman on 3.
